    JoEllen Gates

    Pleasant Hill, Ohio
    Accounting A.A.B.

I have been working in the accounting field since 2015 and I knew that I eventually wanted to go back to school to get an accounting degree to have the education to match the work experience.

Do you have children and/or pets?  I have 2 kids, Beatrice (6) and Gentry (5).

What is your favorite hobby or boredom buster?  traveling, golfing with my husband and watching my kids play sports

What is the last goal you set for yourself—that you achieved?  I am continuously trying to achieve my goal of maintaining decent grades while working full-time and being present for my family.

What do you do to relax?  During the winter it is harder for me to find time to relax, but during the summer I like to take my kids to the pool. I get to spend time with them, while also disconnecting from work and school, which in my mind, is relaxing!

If you had your own late-night talk show, who would you invite as your first guest?  My family and I are huge Bengals fans so I think it would be really fun to interview Joe Burrow.

What song or album could you listen to on repeat?  Anything by Zach Bryan

If you had to delete all but three apps on your phone, which ones would you keep?  I would keep messaging, my email and my calendar. I would be lost without my calendar!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?  Tacos!

Are you an "early riser" or a "night owl?"  A night owl. I am always working or doing schoolwork after my kids go to bed.

Would you try space tourism if money were no object?  No way. Motion sickness and I do not get along so I do not think that I would ever make it in space.

What is one popular book, TV show or movie that you have never read or seen?  I have never read any of the "Harry Potter" books or seen and of the "Stranger Things" series.

What is your favorite season?  My favorite season is summer. I love the warm weather and going to the pool with my kids.

What influenced your decision to choose the major or career path that you did?  I have been working in the accounting field since 2015 and I knew that I eventually wanted to go back to school to get an accounting degree to have the education to match the work experience. I do not think I would have done it if Edison State had not offered the 25+ tuition waiver.

What do you plan to do after graduating from Edison State?  I plan to continue working in the accounting field and to use what I have learned to help me take on new and more challenging clients. I have also considered becoming an Enrolled Agent.
