Scholarships and endowments are forms of gift aid that typically do not have to be repaid. Funds are awarded based on several different criteria, including academic achievement, athletic participation, financial need, hobbies, college major, and community involvement.
Not all scholarships require completion of the FAFSA. This means that they are awarded based on some criteria other than demonstrated financial need. Additionally, scholarship donors recognize that outside factors may occasionally have a negative effect on a student’s academic progress. Thus, not all scholarships consider a student’s grade point average as a final determination of eligibility. Most scholarship applications require an essay, which allows students the opportunity to explain why they deserve to receive the scholarship.

The Edison Foundation Scholarship Application is your ticket to applying for 35+ campus-based scholarships. The Edison Foundation's 2026–2027 Scholarship Application will be available beginning November 1, 2025, and the deadline for submission is February 1, 2026.
Mary Rebecca Allen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Thomas Allen. This scholarship is given as a lasting tribute to his mother, who was a former trustee of ESCC.
Greg and Alissa Blankenship Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in Engineering Technology, Industrial Management or Fine Arts.
Lester and Cleon Bowers Scholarship
Lester & Cleon Bowers valued education, family, and community service. In 2021, they established the Lester & Cleon Bowers Scholarship to support Edison State students pursuing agriculture or veterinary technology, continuing their lifelong commitment to learning and service.
Kathy Clifton Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship acknowledges the commitment and dedication of Kathy Clifton, a long-time professor of more than 30 years, teaching well over 1,000 hours in her educational career at ESCC. In fact, in 2016, she received the Lifetime Faculty Achievement Award from Edison State. She also led the Study Abroad Program where she traveled to Egypt, France and England. Many other accolades were awarded over the years to this remarkable woman.
Darke County Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who are residents of Darke County with special preference given to those who are taking classes at the Edison State Darke County Campus.
Donnelly Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to full or part-time nursing students, preferably from Piqua, who are working towards an RN.
Edison State "Drive for Scholarships" Scholarship
The Edison Foundation Drive for Scholarships annual golf scramble had its origination in 2019 with simply a golf tee, a golf ball and a golf club and it's been a “driving force” ever since. This annual fundraiser raises thousands of dollars for Edison State student scholarships.
Jean M. Dugan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Jean, an Edison State graduate and advocate who dedicated her career to psychiatric care and social work. Established by her daughters, it supports students from Miami, Montgomery, Shelby, Auglaize, Mercer, or Darke Counties.
John J. Dugan Memorial Scholarship
Established by Jean M. Dugan, this scholarship honors her husband, former Miami County Commissioner John J. Dugan, and supports Miami County students pursuing degrees in history, political science, pre-law, or government.
Edison State "Illuminate the Future" Community Scholarship
Based on generous donations to The Edison Foundation Illuminate the Future Annual Scholarship Campaign from our area businesses, organizations and individuals, The Edison Foundation awards this scholarship to both full-time and part-time students who demonstrate academic achievement.
Edison State "Illuminate the Future" Employee Scholarship
This scholarship is funded through generous donations to The Edison Foundation’s Illuminate the Future Annual Scholarship Campaign by Edison State Community College employees. It supports both full-time and part-time students, reflecting their commitment to making a difference in students’ lives each year.
The Edison Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship, which is funded by The Edison Foundation, is awarded to students who are both full time and part time and enrolled in any program of study.
Harry Faulkner Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Harry Faulkner, a 1959 Sidney High School graduate who practiced law for 52 years. Dedicated to community service, education, and economic growth, he supported organizations like the United Way and YMCA. A Hall of Honor inductee and Zenith Award recipient, Harry is remembered for his leadership, generosity, and lasting impact on Sidney.
Freed and Bollenbacher Scholarship
This scholarship honors Frederick “Fred” Freed, Edison State founder and Army veteran, and Richard “Dick” Bollenbacher, longtime educator, recognizing their decades of dedication to learning and lasting impact on their communities.
Floyd Hanes Jr. and Grace Simmering Hanes Memorial Scholarship
The Floyd Jr. and Grace Simmering Hanes Scholarship supports Edison State students in Agriculture or Veterinary Science. Lifelong residents of rural Ohio, the Hanes family managed a Preble County farm, raising livestock, crops, and five children while sharing their love of agriculture.
Holly Hahn Memorial Scholarship
The Holly Hahn Memorial Scholarship was made possible by the gifts of family, friends and former students. The scholarship celebrates her life of dedication to helping students succeed, particularly those for whom English is a second language.
Health Care Hero Scholarship
Inspired by the recent COVID pandemic, this scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to help a student enrolled either part time or full time in the Nursing program at Edison State.
Anne Hudelson Memorial Scholarship
Anne spent over 20 years as a professor in the Office Systems Administration Department of Edison State. Her high standards produced students with the skills and professionalism that enabled them to secure great employment opportunities. This gracious lady maintained a wonderful rapport with her students while, at the same time, upholding the integrity of her program. The recipient of this scholarship must be enrolled in an administrative certificate or medical coding certificate program, either full- or part-time.
D. Douglas King Memorial Scholarship
The D. Douglas King Memorial Scholarship was established by his mother, Marjorie L. King, a long-time resident of Darke County, Ohio. Marjorie King established this trust upon her death to provide full tuition to graduates of Ansonia High School.
Ray and Bettye Laughlin Scholarship
The Ray and Bettye Laughlin Scholarship is available to full- or part-time students who are residents of Darke County and pursing a Nursing degree. The donor has the option of designating an eligible program of study on a yearly basis.
William M. McCulloch Memorial Scholarship
The William M. McCulloch Memorial Scholarship was established by his family in honor of his notable contributions to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and to his belief in the importance of education for the betterment of all.
Miami County FOP Memorial Scholarship
The Miami County F.O.P. Memorial Scholarship was established to honor members of the Miami County Fraternal Order of Police. This scholarship is for youth in Miami County interested in the criminal justice field.
Miami County Republican Women's Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a female student from Miami County with a special preference given to those majoring in political science, law or government.
Miami County Voiture 40 et 8 Scholarship
The Miami County Voiture 420, Forty et Eight Society of the American Legion, awards this scholarship to a second-year nursing student. Applicants must be residents of Miami County.
Miami Valley Wounded Veterans Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship must be a resident of Miami County and a veteran themselves or an immediate family member, such as a spouse or a child.
Vince Miller Family Scholarship
The Edison Foundation proudly established the Vince Miller Family Scholarship in memory of Vince Miller, a Troy native and aeronautical engineer who taught math at Edison State. Remembered for his kindness, community service, and passion for education, his legacy lives on through this scholarship.
Myers-Vaccaro Engineering Scholarship
The Myers-Vaccaro Scholarship in Engineering is given by two dedicated Edison State faculty members in loving memory of their fathers, Clarence H. Myers, a civil engineer and Charles A. Vaccaro, an electrical engineer.
Kathy Oda Memorial Scholarship
The Kathy Oda Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a female student who has been out of the workforce and is a resident of Piqua, Ohio. This scholarship is in memory of Kathy Antolick Oda who created the first library in 1973 at the then Edison State General and Technical College located in the former Spring Street Elementary School building.
William Hart Pitsenbarger Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Piqua native Airman First Class William H. Pitsenbarger, a Pararescueman who sacrificed his life in Vietnam in 1966 and received the Medal of Honor posthumously in 2000.
Preble County Youth Foundation Scholarship
This area foundation, located in Eaton, Ohio, has partnered with the Edison Foundation in providing scholarship opportunities for residents of Preble County who attend Edison State Community College to aid them in their educational endeavors.
Raval Family Edison Scholarship
The Raval Family Education Scholarship has been made possible by the generous effort and support of Dr. Yagnesh Raval in honor of his family. This scholarship is focused on the continuous expansion of STEMM education opportunities for residents of Miami County, Ohio at Edison State Community College.
Roberta Rogers Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been established by Roberta’s family in her memory and to honor her education at Edison State Community College. She graduated with an Associate of Applied Business Degree in 1985.
Shelby County Manufacturing Pathway Scholarship
The Shelby County Manufacturing Pathway Scholarship is offered in partnership with The Edison Foundation, FASTLANE, and University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) to support students who are committed to a manufacturing pathway at Edison State Community College. This scholarship is open to recent high school graduates of Shelby County and current Edison State students residing in Shelby County.
Thomas and Patricia Robinson Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Thomas and Pat Robinson as part of their continued commitment to education at Edison State Community College.
Tri-County Trust Scholarship
Through the leadership of G. W. Hartzell, the Tri-County Education Trust was established at the same time as the College in 1973. The initial fundraising effort in area communities created a capital fund, which has been the basis of scholarships and grant-in-aid awards since 1976.
Troy Lions Club Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by the Troy Lions Club and is awarded to a Miami County resident who is a graduating senior ranking in the top 25% of his or her graduating class and who is attending Edison State full- or part-time. Preference is given to a student who is involved in community service beyond school-sponsored programs and has an interest in vision professions, namely ophthalmology and optometry.
Vaccaro-Myers Scholarship
This scholarship honors Anne Vaccaro, Edison Art and Theatre professor (1995–2015). She founded the Campus Art Gallery, revitalized the Stage Light Players, and inspired students with her teaching before her passing in 2017.
Kenneth A. Yowell Emeritus Scholarship
The Kenneth A. Yowell Emeritus Scholarship, named after Edison State’s third president, is awarded to a full-time, first-generation student from Darke, Miami or Shelby County.
The Edison Foundation Engineering Scholarship
The Edison Foundation Engineering Scholarship, generously funded by The Edison Foundation, is designed to support and recognize outstanding students pursuing a degree in engineering. This scholarship aims to encourage academic excellence, foster innovation, and provide future engineers with the resources they need to achieve their educational and career goals.
Gail and Steve Staley Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who is enrolled in the Nursing Program and is 25 years of age or older, employed and in good academic standing.
The following scholarships & grants are available. Each has a unique set of criteria to be considered for funding. Please see the directions associated with each scholarship/grant to learn about the application process and qualification requirements.
Choose Ohio First Scholarship
No application is necessary. Recipients are selected by an academic dean and lead faculty member through a comprehensive review process. Recipients must be Ohio residents, have new enrollment in a qualifying Choose Ohio First program of study, and commit to a work-based learning component during their time at Edison State. The funding can cover tuition, fees, and required course materials. The scholarship amount is up to $ 2,000 for the summer semester, $ 3,000 for the fall semester, and $ 3,000 for the spring semester. Those selected will be notified via their Edison State student email.
Short-Term Technical Certificate Grant Program
NOTE: As of April 4, 2023, all funds have been allocated. No further applications will be accepted. Please check back regularly for updates.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education has awarded Edison State Community College a special grant for approved short-term technical certificate programs (less than 30 credit hours) through the Short-Term Technical Certificate Grant Program. This grant is designed to assist students with financial need, up to $2,000, for a qualifying short-term program listed on the application. When funds become available, students may complete the application form and submit to the Office of Financial Aid for review. If approved, the award may be applied to classes required for the short-term technical certificate program only and can be used in multiple semesters, as long as the student remains continuously enrolled, until their eligible award has been exhausted or all grant funding has been utilized, whichever comes first. This grant may be used for tuition and lab fees only; it does not cover books and supplies. This grant program does allow students to receive this grant in conjunction with federal aid programs, such as the federal Pell grant or federal loans, for the same courses. The Short-Term Technical Certificate Grant can be applied to tuition and fees first. If the student has Pell grant eligibility, those funds can also be used to purchase books and supplies. This grant program allows students to receive a maximum of $6,000 total per lifetime, or three separate grant awards to complete three different short-term technical programs. The student can apply for a new grant award for a new short-term technical certificate program after they complete the prior short-term technical certificate program.
NEW! Darke County Foundation Scholarship
The Darke County Foundation awarded 85 scholarships in the 2019–2020 academic year, totaling nearly $160,000! Applicants must reside in Darke County and be either home-schooled or attend a high school in Darke County. Students planning to attend a 4-year college, 2-year college, or a shorter vocational program are eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded based upon grade point average, ACT score, activities, financial need, and essay (not necessarily in this order). Students can download an application here. Loman and Olive Shiverdecker Scholarship
Application: This scholarship is available to a graduate of a Darke County high school who is attending or planning to attend Edison State Community College. Students can download an application here. Completed applications should be mailed to or dropped off at The Elk's Lodge, 214 W. Third Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
