UVMC Donates Funds to Support Edison State Nursing Wing Addition

Through the support of the UVMC Community Benefit Fund, Edison State Community College received a generous donation to help advance the planned nursing wing addition at the Piqua Campus and strengthen the region’s health care workforce. The new addition will be named the Upper Valley Medical Center/Premier Health Nursing Wing Addition at Edison State Community College.

“Edison State is tremendously grateful for the gift provided by the UVMC Community Benefit Fund in support of our nursing wing addition,” said Edison State President Dr. Chris Spradlin. “The impacts of this donation will be far-reaching. It will allow our nursing faculty and staff to serve students in a state-of-the-art learning environment; it will provide our nursing students with an ideal space to attend classes, practice their clinical skills, and collaborate with each other on their educational journeys; and it will allow us to expand both our associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing.”

He added, “Ultimately, the donation will help to improve the lives of community members by providing them with outstanding health care close to home. Edison State has a long history of strong collaboration with Premier Health and Upper Valley Medical Center specifically, and we are excited to see the next stage in this partnership take shape. Working together, we will help students to achieve their educational goals and realize their dreams.”

Edison State’s commitment to quality education and community impact has established it as a leader in health care training and development. This donation will help fund a state-of-the-art facility designed to expand capacity for nursing students and address the growing demand for skilled health care professionals in the region by ensuring graduates are ready to excel and positively contribute to their communities from day one.

The Edison Foundation at Edison State is actively forming partnerships across the region to support the nursing wing addition. With funding and support from private, public, and community sources, the College has now raised $4.1 million of the $4.5 million needed to fund the project. It expects to begin construction in August 2026, with the addition opening for use with the fall 2027 semester.

Since 1987, Edison State has prepared highly skilled nurses through its Registered Nursing and LPN/ADN Transition associate degree programs. Throughout its history, the nursing program has maintained full accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. On the National Council Licensing Exam, Edison State students have consistently received a pass rate at or above the national average.

Building on that legacy of excellence, Edison State reached an exciting milestone in 2024, when it received the Higher Learning Commission’s approval to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, allowing RNs to pursue further education at the College.
