MLT Class of 2025 (L to R): Lauren Duncan, Grace McCafferty, Tala Barnes, Edison State Phlebotomy Coordinator and Instructor of Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Scientist Hannah Shirk, Caleb Alexander, Edison State Associate Professor of Allied Health and Director of MLT, Phlebotomy & CLA Vickie Kirk, Sean Davis
“These graduates are a highly competent group of students that will provide high-quality laboratory results,” said Vickie Kirk, Associate Professor of Allied Health and Director of MLT, Phlebotomy & CLA at Edison State.
Graduates of both programs completed their certification exams with the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Founded in 1922, the ASCP is a professional association based in Chicago, Illinois, encompassing 100,000 pathologists and laboratory professionals.
Edison State’s MLT program trains students to obtain, process, test, and evaluate patient biological samples, including blood and other body fluids. Graduates of the Phlebotomy program work face to face with patients to collect blood and other biological samples to help determine proper patient diagnosis and care.
“The MLT program at Edison State prepared me to enter the medical laboratory field,” said graduate Sean Davis, MLT, ASCP. “I now have a first-shift position in the laboratory of a level two trauma center hospital. I am board certified and have certainly increased my income with the education I received! Thank you for providing a space and program where students learn real skills—which we then go on to use to improve not only our own lives, but the communities we serve.”
The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences accredits the College’s MLT Associate of Applied Science and Phlebotomy Short-Term Technical Certificate. Edison State’s Phlebotomy program is one of only seven in Ohio with this accreditation.
