Edison State Offering CNC Mill Programming Workshop Beginning March 4
To help area employees strengthen their foundational skills in CNC mill programming, Edison State Community College’s Office of Workforce Development & Work-Based Learning is offering a CNC Mill Programming workshop. The in-person workshop will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. The department will hold classes on March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, and 20, from 8 a.m. to noon, totaling 24 hours, at Edison State’s Piqua Campus.

Collins Aerospace associate Alyssa Smith participates in a recent CNC milling lab as part of the Edison State Office of Workforce Development & Work-Based Learning’s CNC Tool Operator Training program. Edison State Industrial Technical Training Manager Daryl Curnutte led the lab.
“This workshop is designed to help CNC employees build confidence by understanding the language and processes used in CNC mill programming,” said Daryl Curnutte, Edison State Industrial Technical Training Manager. “Upon completion, participants will be able to identify and apply CNC code to generate a basic mill program. The ability to read this code before hitting the cycle start button is critical to preventing crashes and minimizing scrap parts. If you want to give your employees the tools they need to be successful, this is the training for them.”
Topics covered during the workshop will include:
- Identification and use of G & M codes
- Cartesian coordinate system
- Program format and structure
- Linear and circular interpolation
- Cutter compensation
- Canned cycles
The Office of Workforce Development & Work-Based Learning will provide students with programming workbooks, drawings, and worksheets to aid in creating their CNC programs. Participants will gain hands-on experience in the machine lab, which will reinforce classroom instruction by bringing concepts to life through simulation software that verifies the accuracy of each part program.
For more information or to register, email Brandi Olberding, Edison State Assistant Dean of Workforce Development & Work-Based Learning, or call 937.381.1533. The workshop costs $825. Seating is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
