During the event, “A Transfer Degree: Unlocking Opportunities,” attendees will discover how Edison State helped prepare Kirchner to become an engaging educator. She will also provide a hands-on educational activity that participants can take home for family fun. It will boost creativity and help make learning an exciting journey for young kids.
Kirchner earned her Associate of Science at Edison State. She was also a student worker in Student Affairs, where she gave campus tours, organized merchandise, and developed valuable office skills while maintaining a flexible schedule around classes. She then transferred and graduated from Franklin University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and obtained her teaching license for pre-K through third grade. Now, Kirchner is a second-grade teacher at Heywood Elementary with Troy City Schools and coaches middle school cheerleading for Tipp City Schools.
“What I enjoyed most about my time at Edison State was the small class sizes and the supportive learning environment that allowed me to explore different career paths without feeling pressured to have everything figured out right away,” said Kirchner. “Completing my general education requirements at an affordable cost was a huge benefit, and the hands-on experiences I gained working with children in the on-campus preschool helped shape my decision to pursue a career in teaching.”
The Alumni Experience Series events are free and open to Edison State alumni, current students, faculty, staff, and friends. The Office of Alumni Engagement will offer free lunch to the first 50 guests to arrive. Visit www.edisonohio.edu/alumevents to learn more and register.
