Dr. Rick Hanes, VP of Advancement, Strategic Planning, & Partnerships and Executive Director of The Edison Foundation, addresses scholarship recipients during an event held in their honor.

The Edison Foundation at Edison State Community College recognized over 90 students during its annual scholarship celebration on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Piqua Campus. With 135 friends, family, and donors in attendance, the event provided recipients with the opportunity to meet the patrons who made their scholarships available.

“It is our pleasure to have you here as a guest, and we take the philosophy of treating all of our students, faculty, staff, and donors as VIP guests as you spend the evening with us,” said Dr. Rick Hanes, VP of Advancement, Strategic Planning, & Partnerships and Executive Director of The Edison Foundation. “You’re an extremely important part of the College, and we are extremely excited to have you here.”

“This is a special night for us. This is one of our signature events here at the College, in which we bring donors and scholarship recipients together and celebrate both sides of that, the donors and our students, along with our future,” added Edison State President Chris Spradlin. “We are creating the future. Donors are helping to create the future for students. Students—you are creating a future for yourselves. You’re preparing to better our community and our world through your studies and your future career. There’s a lot of talk about what our future holds. The future is bright because of each and every one of you.”

The Edison Foundation awarded a total of $121,250 in academic and need-based scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year. Scholarships awarded aid students in their pursuit of higher education at Edison State.

The Edison Foundation scholarship application for the 2026-27 academic year is now available. The application allows students to be considered for one of over 35 available scholarships.
