Edison State Community College Cares

Fostering a Culture of Connection and Success

At Edison State Community College, we are proud to be part of the Caring Campus Initiative, developed by the Institute for Evidence-Based Change (IEBC). This initiative is grounded in the belief that when students feel a genuine sense of belonging and connection to their college, they are more likely to persist, succeed, and achieve their educational goals.

Caring Campus is about more than just programs—it’s a cultural shift. Through intentional, campus-wide behavioral commitments, our faculty, staff, and administration work together to cultivate an environment where every student feels seen, supported, and valued. At Edison State, we are committed to ensuring all students feel welcome and confident in their ability to succeed.

By engaging employees at all levels, the Caring Campus Initiative helps Edison State strengthen our student success efforts and build a college community where care and connection are at the heart of everything we do. Join us in building a campus where every student knows they belong, and where support, success, and care go hand in hand. Together, we can make Edison State a place where students thrive.

Our 5 Core Caring Behaviors

10-Foot Rule: Greet anyone within 10 feet with eye contact, a smile, or a hello.

Welcoming Students: Offer genuine, friendly greetings to students and colleagues.

Warm Referrals: If you can’t help a student directly, personally connect them to someone who can.

Nametags: Wear your badge so students know who you are and feel comfortable approaching you.

Cross-Department Awareness: Learning about other departments so you know where to send students.
