Child Development Center

The Daycare Program at Edison State is a full-time developmental program for children 3 years of age through kindergarten. Children participate in activities that support cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative development. While play is the primary strategy used, it is planned and each activity has a purpose. Children are involved in decision-making and problem solving in a print-rich environment that includes blocks, manipulatives, computer, dramatic play and sensory centers. Books and early reading and writing activities are also an important part of the program.

NOTE  The Child Development Center is not a drop-in care facility.

The Daycare Program is lead by director/teacher, Holly Short. Gloria Garber and Liza Bennett are teacher assistants. Additional teacher assistants are students enrolled in the Edison State Early Childhood Education program. Parents are important to the program and their participation and feedback is encouraged.

Planning takes place each week and is linked very closely to the children's interests. Areas such as language and literacy, numeracy skills, science concepts and music and movement are covered during the week. Although the schedule is laid out, the children's days are very flexible and they often show interest in something that has not been preplanned. When this happens, the day and the activities may develop as it goes along.

Children attend Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Children participate in activities that support cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative development. While play is the primary strategy used, it is planned and each activity has a purpose. Children are involved in decision-making and problem solving in a print-rich environment that includes blocks, manipulatives, computer, dramatic play and sensory centers. Books and early reading and writing activities are also an important part of the program.

Enrollment information may be obtained in the Child Development Center. The application form, medical examination form and all other paperwork in the admissions packet must be completed and filed with the Center Director or Head Teacher prior to the first day of attendance. Children will be accepted into the Daycare Program and Preschool Program on a space available basis and in the order that completed paperwork is received. Once the original packet is completed, parents must continue to turn in a semester schedule indicating the hours that their child will be in attendance during the current semester. This is a parental responsibility prior to the end of each semester. The Center will not discriminate in the enrollment of children upon the basis of race, color, religion, sex, ability or national origin.

Registration Fees

There is an annual registration fee, payable once per year. All children must be registered and scheduled into the Center. 

The registration fee is good for one year from May to May. If you register in a month other than May, your registration fee will be due again the following May.

Registration Fee  $25.00 per child

Daycare Program Fees

The Daycare Program child care fee is $3.00 per hour, per child. The weekly fee for children who are in the Center 40 hours or more is $120.00 per week.

Preschool Program Fees

The Preschool Program fee is $144.00 per month, per child. The Daycare Program and the Preschool Program run simultaneously. Payment, accompanied by an invoice, must be made at the cashier's window located in Student Services. The Child Development Center will not  accept payment. 

We have contracts with the Department of Job and Family Services in Miami, Shelby, and Darke Counties for publicly funded child care. Parents who qualify for this service or who wish to explore this option should contact Holly Short for more information. Authorization from the county office must be on file before the parent may charge their care.
