  • Women in STEMM

Edison State Community College is gearing up for our thirteenth annual Women in STEMM Expo (formerly We Are IT) professional conference for young woman—a broad-based introduction to STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) and its relationship to different vocations and careers. While young men are welcome, the focus is on girls due to their continuing under-participation in STEMM fields.

This all-day expo provides an introduction to STEMM and its application to different careers. During the day, students gather in small groups and apply STEMM related interactive activities and technology to work on real-world solutions. Topics for this year's breakout sessions include CAD/CAM Christmas, Human Simulator, CSI@Edison, Robotics, Chemistry Can Blow Your Mind, Power of Business and more!

Participants have the opportunity to win a new laptop computer or other prizes by entering the Women In STEMM Expo Video Challenge! We challenge you to examine science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine as depicted in movies, TV shows and video games and to think about STEMM from a different perspective. For example, TV shows, video games and movies have featured advanced medical techniques including the use of DNA. They have shown mathematical geniuses changing the face of war through code-breaking and navigational inventions. They have also highlighted engineering advances and futuristic technologies, including bionics, robotics and interstellar space travel. By observing the STEMM technologies used in TV shows, video games and movies, you will discover a whole new world of careers to explore. Click here for contest rules.

We had a capacity crowd last year so please register early! Registration deadline for the 2018 Women in STEMM Expo is October 26, 2018. An informational flyer can be downloaded here.
