Where do you live? I was raised in Piqua, Ohio and moved to Troy, Ohio in 2012.
Do you have children and/or pets? I have one son and three grandchildren from my first marriage and two step-daughters from my second marriage.
What do you like to do in your free time? I play golf and I am an instructor for Harley Riding Academy and Motorcycle Ohio.
In what branch did you serve? I served in the U.S. Navy.
What rank/job title did you hold? I was a Machine Repairman, 2nd class petty officer.
Where were you deployed? I was located at the Naval Training Center in San Diego (NTC San Diego), Naval Air Station in Pensacola (NAS Pensacola), USS Sperry AS-12 submarine tender and back to San Diego, California.
Why did you enlist? I enlisted in the Navy because they had a machinist (machine repairmen) rank and that was what I wanted to do.
How long were you enlisted? I was enlisted for four years, 2 months and seven days.
What was the single most important thing that you learned from your time spent in the service? I learned discipline or general orders. I also received education in the machinist trade and quality management.
What is your proudest military and/or personal achievement? The achievements that I am most proud of are graduating from Edison State in 1980, receiving my bachelor's and master's degrees from Bluffton University in 1998 and 2010 respectively and obtaining the rank of full professor at Edison State. I also served as a deacon and then a Baptist pastor for twenty-four years and am now a pastor's spouse.
If you had an infinite amount of money to use for a good cause, what would it be? I would support the research needed to alleviate cancer and diabetes. I would also work to ensure educational equity for everyone.
