Each spring, Writer's Club sponsors an open fiction and poetry contest.
The contest is open to the public, and the deadline is
March
15. The fees per entry are:
- Adults
$3.00 (2 poems for $3.00)
- High School Students
$1.00 (High school students' entries must have
the signature of a teacher or counselor.)
Look for the Edison Writer's Club 2005 Spring
Fiction & Poetry Contest brochure. The
Club is accepting contest entries now. Please send
entries to Cathy Essinger at the College. Entries are judged
anonymously by a committee of Club members, and winners are notified by
mail. Winners are publicly announced at the annual Spring
Reading in the Edison Student Lounge, where cash prizes are awarded and
winning authors are invited to read their entries.
See
brochure for contest information and rules.
Besides sponsoring contests, Writer's Club holds other events during
the year. On the last Thursday of September, we gather at the Troy
City Park's Brick Shelter house for an autumn evening picnic.
Bring a piece or two of your own fiction, nonfiction, or poetry to share
with your writing friends. And don't forget to bring a covered
dish and a friend--and something interesting to roast later in the
fireplace.
While most meetings revolve around critiquing each other's writing,
on occasion, Writer's Club sponsors special events. We like to
invite successful area writers and publishers to come share their
experience on topics such as how and where to market your fiction,
nonfiction and poetry; how and when to submit your work to newspapers,
magazines and journals.
Writer's Club events are free and open to the
public. Some events are held on regular Thursday
meeting nights, and take the place of regular Club business and
critique; other times, they are held on another date during the month,
in addition to the regular meeting. The Club sends out
announcements before each event to those on our mailing list, but also
check tri-county area newspapers for Edison Writer's Club events.
Most Club events are held in the College Auditorium, where we offer
refreshments and, later, an open mike session. So
come; bring a guest and something to read!
