ENG 080D Grammar Review
A review of grammar, punctuation, and usage skills as well as spelling hints. Recommended for anyone with the desire to develop further writing competence and confidence, but especially recommended for students seeking careers that demand English competency. Syllabus
ENG 085D College Language Development
Guided independent and group activities designed to further develop language skills with emphasis on applying skills to college reading and writing. NOTE: Credits earned in this course do not count toward graduation requirements, nor are they usually transferable to other institutions. Syllabus
ENG 091D Basic Writing
Emphasis on applying the writing process to create multi-paragraph expository texts that reflect the writer's awareness of the features important to college level writing. ENG 121S Composition I
Involves writing based on the study of logic, primary research techniques, and the student's own personal experiences. Such writings may include explanation, commentary, interpretation, analysis, and review. All writing will stress standard English, organization, and style. Syllabus
ENG 122S Composition II
Composition of formal essays, reviews, and reference papers, based on the study of logic and library research. Writings will stress organization, the logic of argument, referencing techniques, and the use of standard English.  Syllabus
ENG 123S Introduction to Literature
A study in the reading of fiction, poetry, and drama. Students will learn to respond to literature from a critical perspective in both the class discussions and in their assigned writings. Syllabus
ENG 125S Technical Writing
Introduces students to writing technical reports, including instructions, mechanical descriptions, lab reports, resumes, process reports, trip reports, investigation reports and graphics. Syllabus
ENG 205S Great Books
A critical study of selected literary works representing the fiction, poetry and drama of the Western tradition beginning with the Greeks. Students will read, discuss and write about the literary expressions of different eras.  Syllabus
ENG 218S Case Studies in Technical Communication
This course prepares students entering writing jobs to better accomplish their jobs by studying, analyzing, and solving real situations which have occurred in technical writing jobs. Recommended for students entering writing jobs. Seminar format, non-computerized.  Syllabus
ENG 221S American Literature I
A study of the imaginative literature of America from the beginnings of European settlement until the early twentieth century. Students will read, discuss, and write about the poetry, fiction, essays, and plays that represent the ideas and themes of these centuries. Syllabus

A study of the imaginative literature of America from the beginnings of the twentieth century to the present. Students will read, discuss, and write about the poetry, fiction, essays, and plays that represent the ideas and themes of this century. Syllabus
ENG 224S Newswriting
Introduction to writing for the various news media and their unique features, with emphasis on newspaper writing. Syllabus
ENG 225S Advanced Technical Writing
Continues the practice of technical writing started in ENG 125S or on the job with emphasis on student's major. Emphasis on professional written products to include reports, instructions, mechanical descriptions, and illustrative graphics.  Syllabus
ENG 226S Technical Editing
Prepares students entering writing jobs to accomplish technical editing by focusing on readability theory, audience-based stylistic choices, audience analysis, sentence editing, and improvement of technical and scientific documents including layout, organization, and sentence structure.  Syllabus
ENG 229S Creative Writing
Introduction to creative writing and the styles and techniques necessary to produce creative written expression. In a workshop setting, students learn to critique their own work and that of others. Emphasis is on fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Syllabus
ENG 230S Writing for Publication
A workshop designed to help writers critique and polish their own work for future publication. Students analyze contemporary markets, write query letters, and learn manuscript formats for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.  Syllabus
ENG 231S Helping Writers Write
The study of writing as an academic discipline. The course will investigate various theoretical models of composing and provide the necessary insight for working effectively with other writers across the curriculum. Students will complete writing assignments, read texts appropriate for this level of instruction, and discuss their own peer mentoring experiences in a workshop setting. Additional peer mentoring experiences will be required, either in the Writing Center or elsewhere. This course is designed for students who are interested in or currently tutoring others, or who want to study writing on an academic level. Syllabus
ENG 232S Fiction Writing
Study of the techniques necessary to write short fiction.  Students will create, polish and workshop original work, while learning the essential techniques of short fiction--plot, character, narrative, setting, point-o-view, and scene.  Syllabus
