Congratulations to the Edison math department, made up of Jan Cook, Carol Gudorf, and Jesse Parete, for winning the prestigious AMATYC Input Award.

Edison Community College Math Students

According to Bill Steenken, the chair for the National Mathematics and Science Coalition,

"At the annual meeting of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) held November 16-19, 2003 in Salt Lake City, OMSC (Ohio Mathematics and Science Coalition) members Jesse Parete and Carol Gudorf, and Janet Cook all of Edison College were awarded the prestigious "Input Award" for their "Innovative Ideas in Implementing The AMATYC CrossRoads Standards.

These "Standards for Introductory College Mathematics Before Calculus" set forth standards for Intellectual Development, Content, and Pedagogy."

The Mathematics and Science Coalition is a group of educators (all levels), state education department personal, business leaders and industrial engineers and leaders dedicated to improving mathematics and science education in the US.

Along with the recognition this award carries at the state AND national levels, the department also received a check of $500 to be used for teaching supplies in the math labs.

Way to go, team! We’re all proud of you!
