Frequently Asked Questions
Will I find a job after graduation from the OSA
program?
Many employers contact our Career Center or OSA instructors directly
about job openings and opportunities. The OSA program enjoys the enviable situation of
many job openings and not enough graduates to fill them. Virtually every graduate who
desires to work in an office position is doing so. To register with our
Career Center
, contact Pam Gibellino or Kathleen O'Brien.
What salary level can I expect?
Graduates often begin work at levels of $8 - $12 an hour. Others
attend Edison to improve skills or earn promotion on the job, and their salaries are based
on skills learned. The salary ranges are as varied as the types of positions from which
graduates can choose.
Can I take classes at Darke County Campus?
Many of the general education and business related classes required
in the OSA program are taught at DCC. Several of the advanced OSA classes are
now taught at the
DCC campus; every effort is made to provide equipment, hardware, and software so that
students can complete lab work at DCC.
What are my options in the OSA program?
Visit our Degrees and Certificates page
to learn of the three degree and
three certificate options available to OSA students.
How much outside lab work is required?
Students will find that outside lab work is required in several of
the OSA classes, including OSA111S,
OSA112S, OSA152S,
OSA232S, OSA233S,
OSA251S, and
OSA253S. Lab hours are posted for each OSA lab, and
students may schedule additional lab time as needed. In addition, lab opportunities are
provided in the Learning Lab and DCC. Students who have access to a computer and
the appropriate software at home or at work often find it desirable to complete
assignments off campus.
What certifications are available to office
professionals?
Microsoft Office Specialist certification
is available in all areas of the Microsoft office package. Watch for upcoming
announcements concerning training and testing opportunities. Additional
information is available at the MOS web site at www.microsoft.com.
Certified Professional Secretary
or Certified Administrative Professional certification is provided by the International Association of Administrative
Professionals. Tests are given every May and November in Dayton; the Wings Chapter of IAAP
sponsors study groups for this certification. In addition, Edison offers credit to office
professionals who have earned the certification prior to taking Edison classes.
