OSA 100S Microcomputer
Keyboarding (1 Credit Hour)
Basic touch keyboarding skills are developed: alpha,
numeric, punctuation, and function keys on the microcomputer keyboard.
Designed for persons who interact with microcomputers and need to do so
effectively. NOTE: Credit for this course is usually not transferable to other
institutions. Course may not be used as technical elective in the OSA
program. Lab fee.

OSA 111S
Keyboarding/Formatting (3 Credit Hours)
Review and mastery of the keyboard. Basic skills in the production of office correspondence,
tabulation, and reports are introduced. Production activities will be
stressed. An introduction to basic word processing functions is included.
Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of placement exam, or a grade of
"C" or better in OSA 100S, or one semester of high school
keyboarding. Lab fee.

OSA 112S Document
Processing (3 Credit Hours)
Introduction and mastery of a basic word
processing system, with emphasis on document creation, storage and
retrieval. Speed building and accuracy are stressed.
Includes preparation and manipulation of formatted materials for legal,
medical and administrative offices. Prerequisite:
CIT 110S and OSA
111S. Lab fee.

OSA 131S Records Management (3 Credit Hours)
Introduction to records management including records organization,
evaluation and control, creation and distribution, inactive records, and ARMA filing
methods and systems. Manual and electronic database management is included.
Prerequisite: OSA 111S. Lab fee.

OSA 151S Medical Terminology
(3 Credit Hours)
Root words, prefixes, suffixes, spelling, pronunciation,
and usage of words as needed by the medical office assistant.
Introduction to anatomy and physiology of body systems, pathology, oncology,
and pharmacology. Lab fee.

Transcription (3 Credit Hours)
Review of medical terminology and introduction to
transcription techniques are included. Legal issues, style preferences, and
language usage are introduced. This course provides students with
knowledge of the content and formats of medical documents and reports dictated
in physician offices, clinics, and hospitals. Prerequisite: OSA
151S, and OSA 111S. Lab fee.

OSA 230S Medical Office Procedures (3 Credit
Hours)
Introduction to medical office procedures including receptionist
duties, telephone procedures, scheduling appointments, and medical records.
Medical
law and ethics are included. In-depth research project is required. Corequisite: OSA 111S. Lab fee.

Hours)
Introduction to general office procedures with emphasis on the
procedures necessary to function efficiently with the vast array of new equipment and new
organizational patterns found in today's offices. In-depth research project is

OSA 232S Office
Procedures II (3 Credit Hours)
Machine transcription and office technology. Includes
development of terminology and procedures in student's chosen area of study: legal,
medical, or administrative. Simulation in selected area of study is
also included. Optional five-week internship provides on-the-job training and
experience through placement in an office position. Prerequisite: OSA 230S or
OSA231S. Lab fee.

Insurance and Coding (3 Credit Hours)
Introduction to and manipulation of computer-based software for
patient records, billings, and collections. Insurance processing and medical
coding are emphasized. Includes CPT and ICD-9 coding functions as well
as preparation of HCFA and other related insurance forms. Prerequisite: OSA
230S or documented medical office experience.

OSA 251S Office
Information Systems (3 Credit Hours)
Introduction and mastery of a popular integrated office
package. Includes advanced word processing, spreadsheet and database applications,
and the technologies involved in linking application software, including converting files
from one program and/or platform to another. Individual laboratory time required. Prerequisite:
OSA112S and CIT110S. Lab fee.

Medical Office Computing (3 credit hours)
Introduction to the concepts and fundamentals of
medical office practice management through the use of manual and
computerized systems. Encompasses the entire reimbursement process from
patient scheduling to insurance tracking and follow-up. Prerequisite:
CIT100S or CIT110S or department permission.

Publishing (3 credit hours)
Introduction to the concepts and fundamentals of
office publishing using integrated office publications. Emphasis on proper
procedures to design and create professional quality publications suitable
for professional purposes and personal use. Principles of layout and design
will be included. Prerequisites: CIT110S and OSA100S or department
permission.
