Proposals

- First
Proposal
- Wireless
Support
- Suggested
to provide guidelines and support for Student purchases in the
Wireless networking, working with computer and multimedia
professors as to their syllabi requirements, minimal hardware
and software requirements.
- Provide
broad means of software support, i.e., math and media
- Possibly
have CIT Internship or student workers staff the a Student

Catalog, Archive and distribute intellectual capital.
- Provide
an info structure for archiving classroom information (open
labs, discussions, guest speakers) for future referencing.
- Expand
the “Smart Classroom” concept with microphones and
recorders, audio equipment, mimeo whiteboards.
- Set
standards for obtaining student permission to tape and
record open sessions
- Brad
will turn this focus into an initiative for the next meeting
Patti Ross:
- A
proposal should be directed to a committee or liaison between
departments, possibly the CQI Committee or the Academic Users
Council
- Questions
were raised whether it was our decision or the ETC Council
making just a recommendation to a committee for follow-up.
Jesse
Parete:
- Suggested
to “lease to purchase” laptops for the students and give
support for the students entering into this program.
Charge the student per semester for the laptop, turning it
in after the life expectancy of approximately 2-years.
Dennis
Myers:
- Computer
Lease Options
- After
visiting with other colleges utilizing the “lease to
purchase” laptop computer program, it is advisable to work out
a program where the Vendor is the dealer and handler of the
hardware, providing a access website with names and numbers for
returns and repairs of hardware.
- The
college should:
- Provide
the student with a standard hardware configuration
- Pricing
structure
- Authorized
repair service (on campus with vendor control)
- Some
level of college support (handled by 711 or by a Student
Help Desk and minor repair facility)

General discussion about the possible Tech Prep Grant
($50,000) and the utilization of the grant within the college.
·
