Distance Learning
The interest in distance learning continues to grow at Edison.
The emergence of new W
eb-enhanced course sites began this summer on campus. Dawn
Stinson and Bob Strayer added companion Web sites to both flex and
college by cassette classes. These Web sites provided students not
only with the course syllabus and schedule, but information and areas
that could be used for group collaboration. Online testing was
piloted by Bob Strayer and Laura Miceli using the Blackboard course
management software, and with the help of Truman Bashore in the Learning
Center, the testing proved to be a success.
A new online faculty support area has been established on the Edison Web
site for instructors. This area includes information on
instructional design, links to sites that are currently being used for
online and Web-enhanced courses, along with the CQI process mapping that
was done to establish guidelines for setting up a course online. http://www.edison.cc.oh.us/online/faculty_support.htm
The Learning Center, and
the Library have both added online help areas for students and
faculty. Encourage your students to use both of these resources as
well as the on campus facilities.

Blackboard
Edison
recently reached agreement with Blackboard, Inc. for use of Blackboard's
online learning and course management system within the Edison
community. Blackboard System 5.5 includes areas for group collaboration, testing, assignments,
and external links. This tool can be used in fully
online courses, Web-enhanced courses, or for online testing. The
Blackboard software is being introduced this fall in thirteen different
courses at Edison. You can test drive the Blackboard system by logging
