A Social Service Technician or Social Service Assistant is a trained paraprofessional worker who assists other helping professionals such as social workers, counselors, caseworkers, and therapists.  Edison's Human Service graduates may work in a wide variety of helping agencies and social service programs such as:
Long term care facilities Child welfare agencies Addiction and recovery centers Correctional facilities Community centers	Residential homes Schools and workshops for  developmentally disabled Headstarts Mental Health Centers

Those entering the career field, must be comfortable with writing and paperwork.  Documentation consumes anywhere from 30% to 50% of any given working day in many social agencies.
