In its own editorial comment which appeared in the Upper Miami Valley
newspapers the week of January 14, 2002, Brown Publishing praised the
academic quality and affordability of Edison Community College.

a value in education...
It's that time
of year when parents and their college bound children will sit
down and start making commitments.
As the holidays pass and high school seniors enter their final
semester, the reality of higher education becomes less of a
concept and more of a time to start writing deposit checks.
Edison Community College should be at or near the top of the
list for any student from Miami County.
The college recently sent out a mailing to the parents of high
school juniors and seniors in Miami, Darke and Shelby
counties.
The sales pitch, of course, touted the benefits of Edison.
Benefits such as the following:
- Edison's
annual tuition is about one-half that of the average cost
of other two-year campuses in Ohio.
- It is
one-fourth that of the average cost of four-year public
institutions and one eighth that of four-year private
schools. That can be an annual savings of nearly
$20,000-$40,000 over the first two years of achieving a
bachelor's degree.
- Students
transferring from Edison to other universities often score
better grade-point averages in junior and senior level
courses than other students who started at the university.
- A recent
survey also showed that 97 percent of the community
college students said they were satisfied with the
educational experience.
- Also 53
percent of the country's freshmen are enrolled at the
community college level--not four-year schools.
Locally, one in every three area college bound students
chooses Edison.
Academically,
the college is a wise choice.
With our country still fighting to rise from recession, more
and more non-traditional students also are turning to
education.
Financially, it would be hard to find a better value in education.

We're
More Affordable
Actually,
a lot more affordable. For students in west
central Ohio, Edison is among the dozen lowest cost
colleges in the state. In fact, our tuition is
less than one-fourth the average price of tuition,
plus room and board, at Ohio's four-year public
colleges and universities.
We
promote success.
And when you consider Edison's high quality
instruction, we're an unbelievable bargain. The
academic success of our students who transfer to
four-year schools speaks for itself.
Recent studies indicate that Edison transfers averaged
a 3.20 GPA at a university. This compares
favorably to the 3.09 GPA recorded by juniors and
seniors during their final two years at the four-year
campus.
We're a great experience.
Nearly every current or former community college
student surveyed was "satisfied" or
"very satisfied" with his or her education.
