HELLO! and welcome to the Early Childhood Development Program at Edison Community
College.
I'm Cheryl Buecker and I serve as the Program Coordinator. I'm happy that you are
visiting our pages and hope you will find everything that you are looking for. The field
of early childhood is very popular today as 68% of the parents with children 5 years of
age and younger are in the workforce and need quality care and educational experiences for
their children while they work. It is also a popular field because of the new brain
research that stresses the importance of development in the first three years.
The State of Ohio has introduced Early Learning Content Standards
and they have been imbedded in all the ECD courses. If you are
thinking about a career in this field, you will find many employment opportunities.
The information found here is meant to give you many details of the
program and to answer many of your questions. Students should be clearly aware of the
program expectations and the dedication and high quality of performance that is needed and
required in the field today.
