Minutes
1.
After a preliminary introduction by Dr. Salisbury
regarding the purpose of the team, the group elected Darlene Francis as the
team leader. The team recommended that Chris Sargent be included as a
member for any scheduling issues. It was also felt that Keith Kamerer
should be a consultant for any legal/liability issues that may arise.
Background information on the weight room was shared and handouts were
distributed for the team to read in preparation for the next meeting.
2.
The weight room is now under the direction of
Sandy Brubaker and will be supervised by Student Health Services and Student
Activities. It was clarified that the dance/exercise room is not included
in the scope of this process.
3.
The team briefly reviewed facility characteristics
per established guidelines for fitness centers to determine what level the
college is at currently. At Level 1, the weight room is unsupervised, but
needs to have certain emergency plans and equipment in place. Ideas for
increasing to the next level included use of work studies or nursing
students.
4.
The team toured the weight room to look at current
weight machines and space. Darlene Francis pointed out the equipment that
needs to be replaced and the 3 new pieces of aerobic equipment that have
been added, including a rower, bike, and elliptical machine. After the
tour, the team was dismissed.
