Members Present: Ann Miller,
Cecelia Green, Kathy Clifton, Janice Michael, Mary Beth Aust-Keefer,
Sharon Brown, Jane Salisbury
Members Absent: Brad Reed, Ken Knapke, Dennis Myers
1. Team Leader, Brad Reed, was absent, so the meeting was called to
order by Jane Salisbury. She indicated the need for the meeting was to
review a document entitled, Getting Started in Your Online Class at
Edison. This document was prepared for use by this CQI Process Team in
the fall of 2001. It had been updated by a sub-committee of the Deans’
Council and needed CQI approval since it was originally a CQI document.
2. Ann Miller, a member of both the CQI Team and the Deans’ Council
sub-committee, presented the document for review, along with the
rationale for change.
She indicated a “fake portal” was to be implemented for spring semester
that
would place all on-line students into an on-line tutorial, post
individual class
folders, provide access to all contact information and define steps
necessary for getting started into a given class.
3. After reviewing the document proposed, the following changes were
suggested, coming from the deans:
• Re-consider the use of the term
‘portal.’ It was thought the term would be confusing since this specific
‘portal’ would not meet the criteria of the term in its usual sense.
Denny Myers had suggested the term’s use. He will be asked for input. If
the term is used, an explanation of this specific ‘portal’ and its
characteristics will be added to the document by Ann Miller.
• Paragraph 1, line 3: Open browser… Internet Explorer will be suggested
as the preferred browser.
• Paragraph 3, line 2: Complete phone numbers and email addresses will
be inserted for Becky Pepiot and Shirley Apple-Shoup. The same
information will be added, along with the name Janice Michael for Darke
County students.
• Paragraph 4: Verbiage indicating …if a student is on-campus.
• Paragraph 4, line 2: add DCC office staff to follow Faculty Support
Office.
• Paragraph 7, line 4: Be certain contact information is listed, as
referred to.
• Paragraph 8: Add statement regarding a call to Enrollment Services or
the use of Web Advisor for dropping classes if not an on-campus student.
• Paragraph 9: Re-phrase sentence two as, “Students in Web-Flex and
Web-enhanced classes should receive…
• Kathy Clifton and Brad Reed suggested grammatical edits.
• Sharon Brown requested the final document be dated.
• Janice Michael stated the need for a statement regarding privacy laws,
and the fact usernames and passwords would be forwarded to students via
postal service.
4. Ann Miller will edit the document
as described after discussing the ‘portal’
question with Dennis Myers. It will be forwarded to CQI Team members for
final
approval. Once done, it will be taken by Jane Salisbury to the CQI
Steering
Committee as an updated document. Once accepted by the process team it
can be distributed as needed.
5. The document will be posted to the CQI Web page and other appropriate
places for access.
6. Ann Miller presented a document prepared by the deans entitled Spring
2003 On-line Procedures. No action was taken since it was not a CQI
document.
