Smith, Becky Telford, Brent Adkins, Nancy Cooper, Mona Walters, Amanda
Swigert, Maggie Myers, Keith Kamerer, Kenneth Yowell, Jane Salisbury
Those Absent: Dennis Myers, Bill Waxman
Guests: Terri Jacomet
1. President Yowell called the meeting to order. The agenda was approved
without addition.
2. The minutes were approved as distributed.
3. Status of Performance Teams:
• The Work Study Process
Team has completed its work, and a standing committee led by Kathleen
O’Brien will continue to monitor the various employment and training
issue related to work study employees. The final item of concern for the
original process team is the request to have President Yowell and the
Board review the current pay/rate schedule for work study positions. Dr.
Yowell indicated this would be done.
• Distance Learning Team members met for their fall update/review
meeting. From that meeting came a compilation document prepared by Ann
Miller. Ann drew information from Original Guidelines for Distance
Learning Instructors (Aust-Keefer, 11-2000), ITS—Online Course Support
CQI Committee (1-2001), Online Academic Design Team (1-2001), AQIP 1
Team recommendations (6-2003), and Frequently Asked Questions (Miller,
Fall 2002). Each of these documents has been reviewed by the CQI
Steering Committee and said materials posted. MaryBeth Aust-Keefer, Brad
Reed, and the CQI Distance Learning Team members contributed to the
final writing. Nancy Cooper will prepare a final edited document.
Kathy Clifton will lead a sub-team of this group to review and make
recommendations on video-class presentation formats. Her sub-team
includes: Cecelia Green, Lisa Alread, Janice Michael, David Barth,
and Maggie Myers. Their report is expected early in 2004.
• Academic Deficiency Team: Scheduled to meet October 23, 2003.
• Purchasing Team and Grades Not Submitted Team: Waiting to meet until
Datatel capability compatible with specific team needs.
Those faculty reported in the fall to have not completed the grade
submission process as outlined by President Yowell still have not done
so.
Dr. Yowell will address this issue with supervising deans.
4. New Team Requests:
• Book Adoption Team: A
request was made for a team to look at our current book adoption process
including timelines, various offices involved in the process,
accountability issues, etc. After discussion this request was put on
hold for Dr. Yowell’s review.
5. AQIP:
• Iden Smith reported on the
Helping Students Learn Team initiative. He indicated the team would be
monitoring student success in view of the newly required training for
students taking online classes, and for faculty teaching online classes.
The team has taken a student member, Susan Brunswick. This team
continues to meet regularly.
• Terri Jacomet discussed initiatives of Valuing People. She highlighted
the reincarnation of the Who’s Who, giving special credit to Carol
Rigola for her work in merging multiple documents into one and posting
it to the Public Folders. Team 4 is studying other colleges and
universities also looking at their valuing people processes.
• Dr. Yowell shared the Leadership Qualities document the AQIP 5 team
had developed. This document was the result of several months of reading
organizational theory materials and is to be forwarded to the Servant
Leadership group for incorporation into their leadership curriculum.
Jane Salisbury related information on continuing training, a January
survey for communication needs, and a second Transformational survey
during second semester. The first Transformational survey was given
during Fall, 2000.
6. CQIN:
• Forty-six faculty and
staff are participating in the online faculty training process. Module 1
will be held open until October 24, after which it will no longer be
available. Module 2 was opened October 10, and will span the next four
weeks.
• Dr. Yowell indicated the CQIN team is researching criteria and design
structures for online degrees. Currently, two or three degree options
are being considered for implementation in the fall.
• Engineered Experiences Retreats will be held this year for all
full-time faculty and those administrators not participating last year.
All adjunct faculty will be invited to attend. The first retreat is
November 7, and those disciplines participating will be Business, Human
Services, Accounting, Biology, Marketing, OSA, Real Estate, Anatomy and
Physiology, and HR.

with the President for main campus will be October 14.
