· Student Email - Carol Rigola reported via telephone. The initiative was introduced several years ago, but tabled due to budgetary concerns and flat enrollment. Fortunately, the price of the program, with features Advance Toolware and Share Point, has decreased. The estimated price per student is $2.09. Another concern is the cost of a new server which when purchased would be approximately $100,000. However, the cost would be considerably less when leased from IBM for a cost of $26,000 per year for three years. This information was presented last week for the first time and prospects seem promising. Carol stressed that this will affect everyone on campus and that other CQI process committees will need to follow. · Student Worker - Linda Peltier distributed the updated document that has been submitted for approval. There have been two meetings with campus supervisors and the comments have been positive. The document details the process and will be housed in HR as well as on the HR webpage. The process holds students and supervisors accountable and treats students as employees. The process will be revisited in the Fall Semester. · Student Grievance Procedure - Lisa Hall reported and distributed the document as well as the form students will complete if a grievance is not resolved. Each year before July 1, all complaints and resolutions will be forwarded to the Institutional Research Dept. where the log will be posted to Dashboard. The President’s Office will address complaints only if all other avenues have been exhausted. To date, the document has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for legality purposes. · Online Support – Ann Miller shared the results on the committee’s efforts to review and promote website satisfaction. A link was added to the Edison webpage to be completed by students, employees, and the community in general. Over 170 individuals completed the survey concerning all aspects of the college in satisfaction and rating issues of importance. The Edison webpage currently has 130 subsites and an effort is being made to link every page to the Edison homepage. Text for the admissions and registration offices is being written by the admissions focus group to include those who may not be familiar with college terms or “college speak”. In the near future, Ann will visit every department to determine their webpage needs. · Target Setting – Larry Dragosavac reported that a generic, not specific, process has been proposed. A matrix has been submitted for approval that will have a starting point and complete a circle or cycle that includes evaluations and changes. This process was generated as a result of the AQIP portfolio review in which it was noted that while individuals or departments have a process for target setting, the information is not known to others on campus.
· Helping Students Learn (AQIP 1) – Eileen Thompson reported that progress in improving student writing has been made and that a lot still needs to be done. The committee has worked over 295 contact hours with faculty, the professional development committee, English department, and tutoring center to raise awareness of student writing practices. More help is needed with record keeping, data entry and research. Funds, possibly through a grant, are needed for a writing center coordinator. It was suggested that perhaps the newly hired grant writer may be of help. It was also noted that the new configuration of the library, tutoring and writing center in one central location should make helping the students easier. · Understand Student/Stakeholder Needs (AQIP 3) – Iden Smith reported that the committee determined which departments to survey and gathered current procedures. Response has been prompt. Since processes vary greatly, a general form is not conducive to this process and so a book with procedures will posted electronically on the CQI webpage. · Developing Collaborative Relationships/Partnerships (AQIP 9) – Dr. Salisbury reported that departments dealing with vendors, clinical sites, internships, business and industry submitted current processes. The committee then combined into a general process, which will be posted in the CQI Process Manual.
· Dr. Salisbury shared that On-The-Bus is striving and over 3,050 hits have taken place since the beginning of fall semester. It is considered a “best practice” by CQIN and recognized across the country. The next CQIN Institute will be held in San Antonio, TX. The next team will be announced by graduation, but due to budgetary concerns, the team may be smaller than in the past.
