IVC Subcommittee report
Kathy Clifton presented a report from the subcommittee looking into
interactive 2-way video. She reported that IVC classes are currently
from Piqua to University of Dayton, and have been between Piqua and
Greenville campuses.
While there are some
known problems with the technology, advances are being made. Demand is
currently light. Sharon Brown observed that online and webflex courses
have filled many of the needs once filled by IVC.
Given the low demand
and rapid changes in technology, the team agreed to table the subject of
IVC as a distance learning issue until such time as demand for the
method grows significantly.
Student
Getting Started Document
Because of significant changes to process being driven by the upgrade to
Blackboard 6 and data integration with Datatel, temporary changes are
being made to the student “Getting Started In Your Online Class”
document. Ann Miller reports that handouts will be given to every online
student for Late Fall classes, and Ann and Cece will do orientation
sessions as needed. Permanent changes to the document will be made as
the process is clarified in the coming weeks.
Faculty
process/academic quality
Academic deans as a group are developing a checklist for evaluating
online classes. When the checklist is developed, it will be shared with
this team to ensure that those academic quality requirements as defined
in the evaluation checklist are appropriately accounted for in the
Distance Learning Process/Academic Quality process map.
Course
development process changes
The
online course development process is being changed by the upgrade to
Bb6. A small pilot group is testing Bb6 in Fall 2004, with an expansion
of the test group to Late Fall classes. The changeover from Bb5 to 6
will be complete for Spring Semester 2004-05. Based on the experience of
the fall test and the spring launch with data integration, there should
be enough information to revisit the course development process map. The
team agreed to tentatively target March as the time to revisit the
process.
