ITS - Online Course Support - Minutes

The Distance Learning/Process team met Monday, Sept. 26, 2005.

Attending were Kathy Clifton, Sharon Trittschuh, Janice Michael, Darlene Bayman, Bert Waldrop, Sharon Brown, Ann Miller, Michael Edwards, chair Brad Reed and facilitator Jane Salisbury.

Jane Salisbury reported on the retirement of an AQIP/Helping Students Learn Action Project with implications for the team. The Distance Learning team is given responsibility for the process by which students are certified to take online courses.

To monitor that process, the team will reconvene - likely in early February
- to evaluate data regarding student success rates in online learning.

In addition, the team identified additional areas of interest, including:

  • Data that offer insight into preparation and student success rates in webFlex classes;
     

  • Revision of the "Getting Started in Your Online Class" document to reflect the ability of the bookstore to ship items on request, and to inform students of payment policy;
     

  • Late registration, section changes and the lag time involved in making a change to be reflected in the Blackboard roster;
     

  • Involving academic deans in reminding fulltime and adjunct faculty of the lead time necessary to develop online courses, including assuring the instructor has done the qualifying training;
     

  • Refer to the academic deans and the Distance Learning/Academic Qualilty team a reminder that online and WebFlex courses should be structured to test the student's ability to function in the course within the refund period;
     

  • Looking for opportunities to use Interactive Two-Way Video, especially between Piqua and Greenville campuses.
