The purpose of this meeting was to
introduce Mirapoint, the Newman Group’s solution to Edison’s student
email concerns. Because the college is familiar with WebAdvisor,
Datatel’s solution for obtaining student, faculty and staff
information, it was decided to invite Mirapoint to this meeting to
demonstrate other options and email solutions for the “.EDU”
client.
The demonstration for Mirapoint
included:

calendar options – Customization can be easily done by Edison’s

Anti-Virus – Uses Sophos for
Anti-Virus control and upgrades as necessary

SPAM Control – Offers SPAM
control for all clients

Individual accounts are individually controlled however can
be overridden by LDAP control

Spyware/Adware Removal

Secure Messaging – Secure
encryption – MAPI is not currently supported but provides a
plug-in. Plans to support full MAPI integration in the future.

Complete Integration with
Legacy Infrastructure – Can integrate with WebAdvisor through
LDAP, Blackboard and WebAdvisor, and Microsoft Exchange.
Integrates with Outlook Calendar features.

The committee asked The Newman
Group to bring to campus in January a demonstration unit for the
committee to review and provide to the committee a formal quote of
all products and services offered. Once received, the committee
will begin the process of reviewing this information for comparison.
