CQIN (Continuous Quality
Improvement Network) Committee
Minutes
October 12, 2001
Present: Terri Jacomet, Dennis Myers, Brent Adkins, Jane Salisbury
Absent: Sandy Brubaker, Iden Smith, Ray Lepore, President Yowell
1. Team members brainstormed the Dallas trip and how things learned there could be applied at Edison. The Trailblazer self-assessment and “vital few”
became a focal point of discussion.
2. The topic of trust and how it relates to communication was selected to be the
first of the “vital few” issues addressed. Team members agreed that staff needed opportunities to meet casually with the President so they could observe and interact with him in a less formal setting. Breakfast meetings and/or happy hour-type settings were suggested. Jane Salisbury will discuss
this with the President. In time, other upper-level administrators should be
included in this process.
3. Other areas of interest discussed were:
A. What group might ECC select to support within the community? This
followed the lead of the Container Store and its support of area charities. Some possibilities included the public schools, area families
in need at holiday time, and youth organizations.
B. How can the Edison family celebrate our accomplishments on a more
regular and inclusive basis?
C. Can we design a mechanism for allowing the “good works” of
individuals to be known and yet not cause embarrassment or feelings
of divisiveness?
4. Hiring practices as they impact the “family” issues of Edison were discussed.
It was agreed by those present that our current focus and direction were the right ones, and promoting that focus and direction by selecting appropriate staff should be a priority.
5. To encourage the development of a college culture building upon the values
we wish to live at Edison, it was suggested some of the video presentations from CQIN participating groups might be secured and shown informally to the Edison organization.
