AQIP Criterion 5
Minutes
June 20, 2003
Those present: President Yowell,
Patti Ross, Bill Waxman, Chip Hare, Jane Salisbury
1. President Yowell called the meeting to order.
2. Patti Ross summarized her thoughts on the different readings, concepts,
and models the group had studied and developed throughout this past year.
She stressed common threads and differences.
3. Discussion of Patti’s remarks ensued with everyone agreeing there had
been a shared vision representing an employee-centered teaching-learning
focus for Edison’s organizational function.
4. A Gantt chart outlining some areas of implementation concern was
presented, prepared by Chip Hare and Jane Salisbury. A discussion of those
items, timelines, and designations of responsibility were discussed.
5. It was determined the orientation process, team assignments, leadership
behaviors, and facilitation curricula need to be defined prior to the
opening of fall semester.
A. Orientation process:
handed off to CQI Steering Committee
B. Team assignments: initial ideas from Patti Ross and Jane Salisbury
C. Leadership behaviors: AQIP 5 members
D. Facilitation curricula: Servant Leadership group
6. President Yowell
emphasized the team members were to suggest behavioral characteristics of
leadership consistent with a teaching-learning organization and support
those suggestions with the organizational theories we have studied that
support teaching and learning. Leadership style needs to be changed from
an authority-based model to one of common understanding. (Yowell)
7. President Yowell will discuss with appropriate leadership the expansion
of the Extended Dean’s Council and the implementation of Employee Working
Core Values via the Servant Leadership initiative.
8. Team members are asked to forward their availability for meetings to
Jane Salisbury as soon as possible so future meeting times can be
established.
