There was a
brief discussion of actions and activities that might encourage a more
positive workplace environment. Items included:
- Giving
T-shirts or golf shirts to all employees that could be worn on “dress
down” Fridays or other special days.
- Comments
cards available for all staff to use when wanting to recognize a
colleague for having done something positive and then entering those
cards into a drawing for some type gift or recognition.
- A designated
note card or colored paper that could be used to thank or honor a
colleague having done an especially good job for Edison or having
received some type award or recognition.
- Using the
Update as a venue for recognizing faculty and staff members.
- Staff/faculty
member of the month designation.
Concerns
were raised:
- Efforts for
supporting the valuable contributions of our faculty and staff need to
be doable yet with limited extra effort on the part of other faculty
and staff, particularly Randi Wheaton at the Information Desk.
- Some ideas
have been considered in the past and not been enthusiastically
supported by Edison employees, i.e., the AQIP 4 survey of 2002.
3.
Financial support may be limited because of
the current budgeting crunch.
4.
Whatever is done needs to be visible and
maintained.
Next steps:
Dr. Salisbury
will draft an email summarizing the survey data, thanking folks for
participating, alluding to things currently being done in an effort to
encourage the sense of valuing people, and introducing things to be
initiated in the fall. The draft will be forwarded to team members for
review and editing, and then be sent to faculty and staff prior to fall
semester’s beginning.
No future
meeting is scheduled.
