Criterion 1: Helping
Students Learn
MINUTES
MARCH 7, 2002
MEMBERS PRESENT: Truman Bashore,
Ann Miller, Maggie Myers, Ruth Barney, and Iden Smith
The members were given a description of
the AQIP process and the AQIP description of Criterion 1 - Helping
Students Learn. These were discussed.
The results of the staff survey had
highlighted two areas of concern that fit under this criterion:

Academic
Advising/Student Retention Programs
¨
Distance/External Learning Programs/Teaching Learning Centers
The members discussed these areas and
decided that we would focus our project primarily on the second area, but
might incorporate some advising issues into it. The members based this
choice on the fact that there is an increasing demand for on-line courses.
This area was very important for the future of the College.
There was a general discussion of things
that might be incorporated into the project. Members were asked to think
about this and bring specific ideas to the next meeting.
The members decided to meet on Thursdays
at 9:00 a. m. Due to the short amount of time that we have to complete the
project, the Committee will meet weekly.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 14
at 9:00.
