Orientation - Minutes

November 10, 2005

Present: Sandy Brubaker, Becki Murray, Natalie Rindler, Patti Ross, Dr. Jane Salisbury, Helen Willcox

Absent: Cathy Essinger, Pat Klopfenstein, Mona Walters

Today’s meeting was called to address the request of the Steering Committee “to design a one- to one and one-half day presentation of all modules except Modules 5, 7, and 8. This would be required of new employees the first or second day of employment and would be supported by the administration.” (CQI Steering Committee, 10/28/05.) As is, the module placement is not conducive to providing new employees with the information they need in a timely manner. Therefore, in accordance with the request by the Steering committee, the Orientation team is recommending the following changes: 

Day 1:

            Module 1 (1 hr.) to be completed with HR

            Module 2 (2-2 ½ hrs) to be completed with Supervisor

            **Module 3 (3-4 hrs) to be completed with Supervisor/Liaison/or HR

Day 2:

            Module 4

Further, it is the recommendation of the team that:

·        Email/Blackboard/Nas be moved from Module 1 back to Module 4 as Module 4 will now be completed on the second day of employment

·        Module 6 is combined with Module 9 and completed within the first semester

·        Module 8 will become the 1st special module

·        Module 5 will become the 2nd special module

·        Module 7 will complete the orientation series

·        HR will facilitate a meeting with an ESEA representative for new faculty during Module 1.

 

The Orientation team recommends that all new employees complete Modules 1-4 in their 1st two days of employment; new faculty will complete the orientation modules during duty days. (Specifically, we are recommending completion during the first two duty days prior to the full consecutive week of duty days.)

**The Orientation team also recommends that new employees participate in a tour of their main campus within the first two days of employment, but that a week is permitted to complete the tour of the campus that is not their main campus. This would new employees additional time to plan to be away from their main campus. 

Patti Ross requested that it be noted in the minutes that she wishes to clarify any contract related issues with Phil prior to finalizing the team’s recommendations.

Our next meeting will be held toward near the end of the spring semester. Date and time TBD.
