CQI- Orientation Team

Present: Cathy Essinger, Keith Kamerer, Pat Klopfenstein, Becki Murray, Dr. Jane Salisbury, Mona Walters, Helen Willcox

Absent: Sandy Brubaker, Patti Ross


Modifications to the checklist are as follows:

• Module 10 will be combined with Module 3. Business Office/ Cashier will be added, Purchasing will now reflect Purchasing/ Travel Reimbursement.
• Module 2: addition of a line for Mentor assignment
• Module 5 heading will now read “Introduction to the President’s Target”

Discussion focused on how to monitor the checklist. Questions raised were:

• Who would be responsible for ensuring that modules are completed?
• Was it the employee’s responsibility, the supervisor’s, or personnel?
• Could the checklist be monitored and updated electronically?
• Who will notify a new employee of the scheduled module dates?
• Do we need a direction sheet for supervisors?

It was determined that Keith’s office will notify all new employees of all scheduled orientation modules. For the modules being completed as a group, someone will take attendance and forward that information to Personnel. For modules completed individually, the person presenting the module will notify personnel when the employee has completed that particular module. Personnel will periodically notify the employee of modules that have not yet been completed.

It was also decided that we would develop an information/instruction sheet to accompany the checklist. This companion will contain a few brief general sentences about each module and will answer the following basic questions:
• What is the intent of each module?
• Who is responsible for presenting the module?
• How will the employee get credit for completing the module?

Team members are to prepare a rough draft for their assigned module. Drafts are to be submitted to Becki Murray by September 22. Becki will put the drafts together into one document for discussion at the next meeting. Mona was asked to reserve room 346 for the next meeting.
Module Draft Assignments are:

• Module 1- Keith
• Module 2- & Module 4- Mona and Patti
• Module 3/10 Becki
• Module 5 & Module 7- Dr. Salisbury
• Module 6- Helen
• Module 8- Sandy and Becki
• Module 9- Cathy, Pat, and Helen

Dr. Salisbury shared the dates that have been set for the modules that will be presented to new employees as a group this fall.

• Module 3- Tour will be September 19, 2003
• Module 5- Introduction to the President’s Target will be October 31 in the boardroom from 1:30 to 3:00.
• Module 7- Engineered Experience will be held on December 12 from 9:00 until 11:30.
• Module 8- Student Development is to be determined- preferably mid-November.

Our next meeting will be September 26, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. in room 346.
