ORIENTATION TEAM
Minutes from August 7, 2003
Present: Sandy Brubaker, Pat Klopfenstien. Keith Kamerer, Patti
Ross, Dr. Jane Salisbury, Mona Walters, Helen Willcox
Absent: Cathy Essinger
Discussion was focused on determining the sequence of the orientation
modules to be presented to the Steering Committee on Friday, August 8.
It was determined that the sequence of the modules should be as
follows:
-
Human Resources/
Room & Office Access/ ESEA- this module will be completed
individually.
-
Department- a
designated departmental representative will meet with the new
employee/ faculty member immediately following module 1. The purpose
of this meeting is to provide the employee with a brief tour and the
items necessary to begin working.
-
ITS- this module
may occur in multiple sessions depending on the needs of each
employee. Initial session will include training on email, public
folders, etc. Some parts of the ITS module may be completed as a
group, i.e. Blackboard training.
-
Introduction to
the Bull’s eye- this module will give an overview to the President’s
Bull’s eye and the concepts of working by values and servant
leadership. This module can be completed as a group.
-
Department- this
module will be focused on the departmental needs that are considered
to fall into a “special” category within that department, i.e.
maintenance (rules/ regulations/ certification) would be different
from those of a faculty member.
-
Engineered
Experience/ Bull’s eye Revisited- This module will be concentrated
on providing a more in-depth look at the President’s Bulls Eye’s and
the importance of providing excellent customer service.
-
Student
Development- This module will provide an overview of the services
provided by the Student Development Office.
-
Supervisor- this
module will be a meeting between the employee and supervisor to
determine goals, career development, performance expectations, etc.
In addition to the
orientation modules, it is also suggested:
• Each new
employee/ faculty member be assigned a mentor. This person could be
a supervisor or co-worker who would be the designated “go-to” person
for the employee when they are in need of assistance.
•A process monitor should be assigned to oversee the orientation
process and ensure that all modules are completed.
• A “customizable” checklist will be designed. There needs to be a
partnership with the checklist between the employee/ supervisor/ and
process monitor.
Team members provided copies of their departmental orientation
needs. These items will be discussed at our next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on August 14, in room
346.
