Discipline Policy:
The Edison Community College Child Care Center staff shall emphasize
the total development of the child through guidance and direction which
is positive in nature, consistent in approach, and which tends toward
teaching each child self-control, problem solving skills and acceptable
behavior.
Consequences in a discipline situation will be positive redirection,
choices, conferences with the child and/or parents. The parent may be asked to remove the child
from the Center in instances where the above techniques do not achieve
positive results.
No child shall be subject to harsh or cruel treatment, or be
humiliated, or subject to abusive or profane language. Physical
punishment is totally unacceptable.

|
Health and Safety:
- No child is to be left alone or unsupervised.
|
- Each child will be signed in upon arrival at the Center. The
child's attendance will be logged out upon
departure. Children must leave with the same person who brought them
unless instructions for a different pick-up person are made in
writing.
|
- The Center staff has immediate access to a working telephone at
all times.
|
- Fire drills will be held monthly at varying time and a record of
these fire drills will be maintained in the Center. Weather
emergency drills will also be held.
|
- Children will not be transported by vehicle away from the Center
unless special arrangements are made with the parent. Written
permission for such an event will be obtained.
|
- The children will walk around the outside of the building when the
weather is suitable and may go to the exercise room for movement
activities during inclement weather. A sign will be left in the
Center telling parents where the group has gone and when they will
return.
|
- A person trained in first aid shall be available to the children
at all times. The Edison nurse is available Monday through Thursday.
|
- An incident report will be completed when an accident or injury
occurs or when an incident necessitates administering syrup of
ipecac. The parent will be asked to sign the incident report
acknowledging the incident, and will then be given a copy of the
report.
|
- Spray aerosols shall not be used at any time when children are
present at the Center.
|
- The Director and each employee are required to immediately notify
the local public children services agency when they suspect that a
child has been abused or neglected.
- If children bring blankets and
pillows from home for naptime, parents must be responsible
for washing them once a week or between uses by different
children.

Mildly Ill Children:
We ask that you please do not bring a mildly ill child to the Child
Care Center. A child who is experiencing minor cold symptoms, but who is
not exhibiting any symptoms listed on the communicable disease chart
and/or who is not feeling well enough to participate in activities
should not come to the Center. We suggest that you have a back up plan
to use when your child is too ill to be in the Center.
|
|
Administration of Medication:
The Center's policy is that in cases of extreme emergency, Center
personnel may administer syrup of ipecac to a child without written
instructions from a physician if following verbal instruction of the
Poison Control Center licensed physician.
It is the policy of the Center to not administer or hold any other
medication.

Communicable Disease Policy:
- All staff will be trained in signs and symptoms of illness
and in hand washing and disinfection's procedures by the
Director or her designee.
|
- When a Center staff member is ill, he/she will not report to
work, and a substitute staff member will be called to work.
|
- Parents will be required to remove their child from the
Center if any of the following symptoms are present:
|
- Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool within a
twenty-four hour period)
- Severe coughing, causing a child to become red or blue in
the face or to make a whooping sound.

- Evidence of head lice, scabies or other parasitic
infestations.
|
|
|
We will isolate the child while the parent is being notified. The
child will be cared for in a portion of the room not being used by other
children.
|
|
Readmitting After Communicable
Diseases:
The Ohio Department of Health Communicable Disease Chart is posted in
the sign-in area. The Center and staff shall follow this chart for
suspected illnesses. Written notification to the parent will be made
when a child has been exposed to a communicable disease. If the
chart requires that the child see a physician, please ask the physician
to write certifying when the child may return to the center.

Meals and Snacks:
12 - 12:30 each day is lunch time in the center. If you child is in
the center all day, he must bring a nutritious lunch to eat during this
time. If your child is arriving at this time, or departing at this time,
he does not have to bring a lunch, but we do recommend that you consider
how your child will feel if he is in the center while the other children
are eating....especially if he is getting hungry and has been in the
center all morning. It is our recommendation that all children who will
be in attendance in the Center between 12 - 12:30 bring a nutritious
lunch to eat. Children who arrive after 12:30 noon must have been served
lunch before arriving. Be sure to pack utensils and a napkin. There is a
refrigerator in the Center where the lunches will be stored.
If you would like help with ideas for preparing nutritious lunches,
please contact the center director.
A nutritious snack will be served in the middle of the morning, the
middle of the afternoon, and in the evening.

| Play:
Yes, children at The Edison Community College Child Care Center do play
most of the time! This is because we believe play is essential for a child
to learn.
 |
|
|
Through play experiences children explore their world,
find out how to get along with others, test their skills and muscles,
try out new ideas, and feel competent enough to try different
activities. Curiosity, self-esteem, language, problem solving,
mathematics, cooperation, and endurance are just a few of the many kinds
of learning involved in play. So you see, what looks like play is really
hard work.
