Fine artists create works
of art to communicate ideas, thoughts, or feelings. The
fine arts emphasize the creation of original artwork through
self-discovery and realization of individual creative potential.
Using a variety of media and techniques including painting,
sculpting, printmaking, photography, computer art, and ceramics,
fine artists use images to identify and critique society.
The fine arts plays and integral role in preserving and
advancing culture. Many students transfer to four-year
programs to further enhance their career opportunities.
The
Associate of Arts
degree in Fine Arts offers an excellent two-year preparation for
students wishing to transfer to a baccalaureate program as well
as to the individual interested in enrichment and honing of
skills. Through core courses such as drawing, basic design
and color theory the student-artist will acquire the basic
skills necessary for further development. Subsequently
students can pursue an interest in two-dimensional specialties
such as painting and printmaking, photography, or computer art,
or three dimensions through sculpture and ceramics.
An AA degree in fine arts
is an excellent foundation for arts education (all levels),
museum studies (research and administration), as well as for a
career as a professional artist. Students should realize
that most careers in the arts require further educational
advancement. It is highly recommended that students
enrolled in this program consult their advisor to assist with
transfer options
Fine arts students have
been accepted by the Boston Museum School, the University of
Georgia, Columbus College of Art and Design, Antioch College,
and Bowling Green State University.
