EDISON COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT SUCCESS PLAN
According to the
Planning Committee on Higher Learning
Accountability and Productivity of the Ohio
Board of Regents,
a Student Success Plan is defined as a clear,
public statement of the measurable learning
outcomes expected of students attending an
institution. A complete Student Success Plan has
three components: defining student learning
outcomes in
1) general education
2) undergraduate programs and majors, and
3) special features of the undergraduate
learning experience in institution-wide
programs.
Edison Community College’s Mission Statement
states that it “provides learning opportunities
that enable and empower citizens, commerce, and
communities in Darke, Miami, and Shelby
counties.” To that end, the College has
committed to student core values and general
education outcomes. Associate degree programs,
certificates and various options within career
programs contain broad learning outcomes for
those disciplines. The Academic Catalog defines
each core value and general education outcome.
At the individual course level, learning
outcomes specific to each course and common to
every section of that course are identified.
The “part one” of each course syllabus lists the
course outcomes.
The
College conducts assessment of learning by a
variety of methods to determine if it is
fulfilling its mission. Validity measures can
include entrance testing, instructor
assessments, externally-given certification
examinations, national standard examinations,
employer surveys and feedback, success of
student transfers, meeting national or state
accreditation standards, and formal and informal
evaluations by external professionals. The
results of these assessment efforts are
documented, analyzed and used to improve
instruction as necessary to guarantee that our
students can succeed in the workforce and/or in
further education. Assessment of student
learning is ongoing and reported annually and/or
at other specific intervals.
