Frequently Asked Questions:
What do I wear to class? You can wear casual, work
or office clothes. Some of the rooms are cold and some or the rooms are
warm; dress in layers so you can be comfortable in class
Do I get a break if a class lasts 3 hours? Your
instructor will usually provide a short break in a 3 hour class.
Can I drink water or soft drinks in class? Never in a classroom with a computer, in other rooms it is up to the teacher
but most will allow a bottle of water.
Is there a place where I can purchase something to eat/drink? Yes there are machines throughout the school; we also have a cafeteria that is open during the fall and
spring semester classes until 7pm.
Where should I sit in class? There are no assigned seats,
however, where you sit the first day of class is where you
usually sit for the rest of the semester. Sitting in the front of the room makes it easier to see the
board and visuals and to hear what the teacher is saying
Will I be the oldest in class? Someone is always the
oldest in the class and someone is always the youngest in the
class.
How will the younger students treat me? Respect for
each other is expected both in and out of the classroom.
I only have 15 minutes between classes can I make it to my classes? Yes you can go from one end of Edison Community College to the other and stop to get a soda in 15 minutes.
I cannot climb stairs how do I get to my classes on the second floor? There is an elevator
located in the 100 section of the building. You can find
the elevator on the campus map located
next to room 102.
How do I know that I have chosen the right career?
Career development in room 020 (Ext. 360) offers free career
counseling and assessments.
What do I take with me to my first class? Your book, pen, pencil and a notebook all are needed the first class; the bookstore will help you
to select the correct textbook.
What is a syllabus? A syllabus is an outline of the class explaining what is expected of the student, when assignments are
due, the way the class will be graded, and what the student will learn in the class.
How will I find time to study? By making yourself a place to study and setting a time to
study. Some find it easier to come to school early and study here, perhaps with another
classmate.
Is there anyone to help me? Check the links to the library and the
learning center. The
library and the learning center can provide assistance online
and on campus. You can also set up a time to meet a classmate in the chat room of this site and study on line.
Will I be able to study after all this time? Adult
students tend to be serious about their careers and goals and
therefore put forth great efforts to achieve good grades.
Many adult students are on the dean's list.
What do I do if I cannot come to class? Call or email the instructor and tell them you will not be there. You can also call faculty support
ext. 221 and leave a message. If you know in advance that you will be missing a class speak to the instructor as soon as possible before you miss the class.
How can my family reach me if there is an emergency? Give your family a copy of your class schedule including the room number of your
class. Your family can call in and leave a message and you will be contacted. This is an emergency service
only.
