About the
Learning Center Tutors
On November 13, 2006,
The Edison Community College Learning Center was
authorized to certify its tutors at Level I through the
National College Reading and Learning Association (NCRLA).

December 1, 2006, five tutors were awarded their
certificates. These tutors are Earl Dawson, Jamie Hetrick, Tara Kolker, Amber Wooten, and Nathan Wright.

December 7, 2007
Ryan Francis and Katie Drees were awarded
certificates.
To be certified the
tutor must complete the following:

Ten
hours of tutor training (5 hrs prior to the Fall Semester
and 5 hrs prior to the Spring Semester);

25 hours
of actual tutoring time;

New
tutors must read, analyze, and write a summary of ten
articles from the NCRLA Tutor Handbook during the tutor’s
first semester of employment. “Defining Tutor
Responsibilities”, “How to Begin
and End a Tutoring Session”, “Role Modeling” , and
“Communication Skills” are examples of the articles a tutor
must summarize.

Each
tutor must create or work on some type of project each
semester. The projects must relate to learning/tutoring in
some fashion, and may include such activities as visiting
classrooms to promote the Learning Center services, creating
learning pamphlets/handouts, bulletin board displays etc.
