Edison Community College is offering an exciting new associate degree program leading toward a career as a Law Enforcement or Corrections Officer.

There is and will continue to be a strong demand for positions in local and state law enforcement, juvenile and adult corrections, probation and parole, and public and private security agencies. Nationally, jobs for workers in the group "police and sheriff's patrol officers" is expected to grow faster than average through the year 2012.

The program is intended to serve individuals who are seeking entry-level positions, especially in local and state law enforcement agencies; juvenile and adult corrections; probation and parole; and public and private security agencies.

Program admissions

The Criminal Justice program further educates students who complete the Basic Peace Officer Academy at Edison and who passed the Ohio Basic Peace Officer Certification examination.  Students who wish to first take the degree requirements may select the Basic Peace Officer Academy at conclusion of the program.

The academy has special admission requirements.  The candidate must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be twenty-one years old by the end of the Academy. Also, no candidate may have any felony or domestic violence convictions. All candidates must complete a short interview with a review committee before final acceptance into the academy.

Students must contact the Edison Business & Industry department for the Academy application materials at least two months prior to the start of the Academy they wish to attend.

Graduates of this program planning to continue their education at a four-year institution will find easy transfer to most institutions. Students should tailor their Edison program closely with the requirements of the four-year institution.
