2007 Edison Volleyball Season
Outlook
The Edison Volleyball Team
hopes to ride the momentum from last years astonishing successes
into the 2007 season. Last year Edison in only its second season in
existence and first since the 2003 season earned a record of 28-7.
The Chargers captured the Region XII Championship as well as the
District G Title and finished the season as the NJCAA Division III
National Runner-Up.
Three
starters return from last year’s team including 5’11 middle blocker
Jessica Girod, who was ranked in the nation in three different
categories last season and was named as a pre-season All-American.
Middle blocker, Laura Deaton and libero, Natasha Selle who were
named “Top Returning Region XII Players” will also play a vital role
in leading this year’s team to another successful season. Coach
Snider –Dearth stated,” Our sophomores will be the foundation of our
team this upcoming season. While we have many players that will
contribute, their leadership will be a key to us being successful.
Their experience from last year will be invaluable as they help
guide the freshman into a very challenging schedule”.
Six new faces will grace the
Edison roster this fall. They include setters Erin Schieltz and
Misty Allen. Additionally Brenda Hemmelgarn and Jayme Krietzer will
play the position of outside hitters and Jenny Kessler and Kristen
Inman will be the Chargers middle blockers.
Coach
Snider-Dearth noted that last year’s season was a great
accomplishment for the volleyball program as well as the college but
this season Edison will have a target on its back. “Last year we
surprised many teams because we were ultimately a first year
program” said Coach Snider-Dearth. “We will not be able to sneak up
on teams this season. They will expect us to be good. While this
years team has a different make up from last year, we feel like we
can be very competitive and our challenging schedule will hopefully
assist us in making a run to the national tournament in November”.
While this will be Edison’s
official first season in the Ohio Community College Athletic
Conference, the Chargers hope to make a statement in conference play
and once again contend for regional and district championships. As
stated by Coach Snider-Dearth the volleyball team’s ultimate goal is
to return to the NJCAA Division III National Championships in
Rochester, Minnesota. |
