2009 Volleyball Updates -- Chip
Hare, Athletic Director
November 8, 2009
Volleyball Team fell
to Jackson CC 3-0 in Sunday's regional semi-final.
Edison played well but just didn't have enough to
get over the hump losing 25-21, 25-23,25-22.
The Lady Chargers finished their season with a
successful 20-10 overall record! Congratulations to
the team and coaches for putting out a great year!
November 8, 2009
The Lady Chargers
had a day of highs and lows on their opening
rounds of the Region XII Volleyball Tournament.
Edison opened up the tournament by what Coach Snider
stated was "our best match of the year" by downing
Vincennes University 3 games to 1.
Up next for the
Lady Chargers was the #1 seed of the tournament and
the #8 team in the country, Kalamazoo Valley CC.
While Edison had high hopes, the volleyball team
just could not get on track and lost in three
straight sets.
Edison will play
Jackson CC @ 11:00am today in this double
elimination tournament. Should Edison win they will
face Kalamazoo Valley CC once again @ 1:00pm and
must beat them twice to capture the regional
championship.
While
the volleyball team has their work cut out for them
the Lady Chargers are determined to make this day
one for the ages!
Go Chargers!
November 5, 2009
Volleyball post-season has arrived
and our Lady Chargers have had a
great season finishing with an
overall record of 19-8 and 9-3 in
conference play. The team has been
ranked as high as #14 in the country
and are currently # 21.
Edison
will depart tomorrow for the Region
XII District Tournament in Grand
Rapids, Michigan. The volleyball
team received the # 2 seed and will
play the winner of the Vincennes
University/Jackson CC. match on
Saturday at 10:00am. The Lady
Chargers will look to capture their
third district championship in
school history and advance to the
national tournament in Wisconsin.
Tomorrow the ladies will be
departing from North Hall at 11:15am
and be led out of town in style by
the Piqua Police. If you have a
moment stop by and cheer our team on
as they look to add another page to
the history books of Edison

Our
Edison Chargers have won their last
three volleyball matches by
defeating Lorain, Cuyahoga, and
Lakeland in convincing fashion by
defeating all three opponents in
three straight sets. The volleyball
team’s overall record is 18-7 and
8-2 in conference play.
The
Lady Chargers are wrapping up their
regular season schedule this week as
they get ready for tournament play
next weekend. Their
competition will get much tougher
this week as they host the only two
teams that defeated Edison in
conference play earlier this season.
The volleyball team will host the #6
team in the country, Columbus State
C.C. tonight and the nine time
defending conference champion Owens
C.C. Friday night. Both
matches begin at 6:00pm
Go

The
Edison Volleyball Team will be
hosting its 3rd Annual "Dig
for a Cure" volleyball
game on Wednesday, October 28th @
6:00pm. The Lady Chargers will be
hosting the #5 team in the country,
Columbus State Community College.
In
addition to a great match the
volleyball program will be honoring
two cancer survivors from the
community, Diane DeBrosse, a 2 year
breast cancer survivor and Martha
Selle, a 25 year breast cancer
survivor. Diane and Martha are the
wife and sister of Edison's long
time volleyball line judge, Dennis
DeBrosse.
To
celebrate Diane and Martha's victory
over cancer their family and friends
will be present for a brief ceremony
before the match on Wednesday.
As
in years past, the Athletic
Department will be raising money at
Wednesday night's game to assist in
the fight against cancer. The
Volleyball Team will be selling "Dig
for a Cure" t-shirts in the
cafeteria next week for $5 as well
as raffle tickets for special prizes
to be given away at the game. Half
of all the proceeds from the t-shirt
sales and raffles will go to UVMC
Cancer Center to be used for women
who do not have insurance to pay for
mammograms.
Please consider attending the match
on Wednesday night or purchasing a
t-shirt to help support this worthy
cause and our Lady Chargers.

on the award.
October 6,
2009--
After
a 11 day layoff, the volleyball team
resumed conference play last week.
The team traveled to Owens C.C. and
lost in a tough 5 game match to the
9 time defending conference
champions. Edison then got on the
bus this past weekend to travel to
Cleveland to take on Cuyahoga,
Lakeland, and Lorain Community
Colleges where the Lady Chargers
found themselves dominating their
opponents by winning in three
straight games in all of their
matches.
The
volleyball team will take their 14-6
overall record and their 4-1
conference record to Dayton on
Wednesday where they will play
Sinclair in a rematch from three
weeks ago where Edison won in three
straight games. Go Chargers!
September 17, 2009--
Our
nationally ranked Lady
Chargers opened up conference play
last night by defeating Sinclair in
three straight games, 25-21, 25-21,
25-15. Edison improves
their overall record to 11-1 and 1-0
in conference play. The volleyball
team also moved up one spot in the
latest NJCAA Division II poll to
#14.
Edison will
now head into their toughest
challenge of the season to this
point by playing in Wittenberg
Universities "Battle of the Border"
Tournament this weekend. The Lady
Chargers will face nationally
recognized and ranked varsity
programs at the NCAA Division III
level. While Edison is certainly
playing "up" this weekend it gives
the team the opportunity to play
against some great competition and
prepare them for post season play.
Go
Chargers!
September 10, 2009 --
Edison received national
recognition yesterday as the Lady
Chargers were ranked #15 in the
latest NJCAA Division II volleyball
polls. This national ranking
comes while the volleyball team has
posted a 9-1 record to this point.
They Lady Chargers have earned
quality wins against three
nationally ranked teams thus far and
have competed against some our
region’s toughest programs.
The volleyball program has made
great strides in the past few
years. In 2006 and 2007 Edison
competed at the Division III
(non-scholarship) level while
finishing as national runner-up in
06 and in the national final four in
07. After seeing the need to grow
the program, Edison made the leap to
Division II (scholarship level) in
2008. It certainly did not take
long for the Lady Chargers to impact
the national scene at the Division
II level. This speaks to the level
of coaching in addition to the
quality of student-athletes the
volleyball program has had since the
inception of the program.
While there is a strong schedule
ahead, this nationally ranking marks
a significant point of growth for
the program. Coach Snider-Dearth
and her team look forward to the
challenges that lie ahead of them
the rest of this season.
Edison’s
next game will be Saturday when they
travel to OSU-Newark @ 1:00pm. The
volleyball team’s next home game
will be next Wednesday @ 6:00pm
against Sinclair. Go Chargers!
September 9, 2009--
The Edison Volleyball Team had
another strong outing this past
weekend at the Owens Invitational.
The Charger’s downed Mott C.C.,
Macomb C.C., Lansing C.C., and
Oakland C.C. with their only loss
coming to the #10 team in the
country, Hagerstown C.C.
The volleyball team improves their
overall record to 9-1. Their next
match will be this coming weekend
when we take on OSU-Newark. The
team’s next home game will be next
Wednesday September 16 @ 6:00pm as
we look to defeat our rivals from
the south, Sinclair. Go Chargers!
