Requirements Nursing Program Applicants

In addition to complying with the College's general admission procedures, nursing program applicants must:

  1. Have successfully completed one year of high school chemistry (applicants may take CHM 110S as an equivalent course); Note: To take Anatomy and Physiology I and II (BIO 125S and BIO 126S) chemistry must be taken within the last five years or department permission for bypass given.

  2. Have satisfactory math assessment score and three years of college preparatory mathematics, or a grade of "C" or better in MTH 099D, Intermediate Algebra II.

  3. Have satisfactory assessment scores in reading and writing to be ready to take Composition I (ENG 121S) or successfully complete Basic Writing (ENG 091D) and College Preparatory Reading (ENG 093).

  4. Submit a nursing program application (including essay) by January 31 of the year of desired admission to the nursing program.  Criteria for selection of applicants to be admitted to the program includes a combination of:

  • Satisfactory high school record, including class rank; or GED scores

  • ACT, SAT, or COMPASS/ASSET scores

  • Successful completion of required developmental courses

  • Previous college work

  • Overall GPA for previous college work.

  • Demonstrated improvement in recent academic work.

  • Essay as defined on nursing application.

Application packets are available in Admissions, at the Information Desk, Darke County Campus, and in the Nursing Office.  At the time of application, at the time of application, the applicant should demonstrate a clear plan to meet the requirements (see above #1, 2 and 3) prior to the first nursing course.

The Selection Committee will meet to review all nursing applications and to select the class to begin nursing courses the following Fall Semester.  all applicants will receive written notice of the status of their application by march 20.  Students must complete application requirements prior to the start of the first nursing course.

Those selected to the program are required to have a physical and medical health form completed by a physician, a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer card, and a successful background check. 

Note:  Registration in and completion of support courses listed for the nursing program does not guarantee selection to the nursing program.
