Frequently Asked Questions

Who may take advantage of the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP)? Any authorized student enrolled in Ohio Public Schools, in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 may qualify to participate in PSEOP under Option A or Option B.

Who pays the PSEOP costs of a public student attending a PSEOP institution? Under option B, the student receives both high school and college credit with the public school district being responsible for the cost.

Under option A, the student receives college credit with the student/parent/guardian being responsible for the costs.

If a non-public student participates in PSEOP under option B, who is responsible for the cost?  The Ohio General Assembly has established a specified sum of money to pay for non-public student participation in this program.

Will Edison send final grades from courses taken to the high schools at the end of each semester?   Final grade reports are sent to the high school guidance counselor at the end of each semester.  Edison grades are factored into the high school grade point average.

Can students take summer classes under this option? The PSEOP program covers only those classes taken during the fall and spring semesters.

If a PSEOP student completes a class, and receives a failing grade, who pays for the class? Students who receive a grade of “F” (failure), “W” (withdrawal), or “FUW” (failure-unofficial withdrawal) will be billed by their school district for all costs related to that class.

Will Edison send a mid-term grade to the student?  Edison does not send mid-terms to the high school.  Students, whose high schools require mid-terms, should request mid-term grades or report from their Edison instructors.

Who is responsible for intervention if a student fails a college course being taken for college credit? Students participating in PSEOP, together with their parents, must be aware of and understand the social and academic consequences of participation.  Any necessary intervention may be, but is not required to be, provided by the home school district.  Intervention may also be, but not required to be, provided by Edison Community College as deemed necessary.

What happens when a student transfers into a new high school district after the March 30 deadline? The student is responsible for contacting the high school guidance counselor of the new school district for authorization to participate in the PSEOP program under the new school district.

Are students who are “home-schooled” eligible for PSEOP?  Students who are home-schooled, must contact the Ohio Department of Education Area 2 State Coordinator’s office to apply for the program.  The phone number is 937-339-2631.

Can a student who is enrolled in PSEOP on a full-time basis participate in high school athletics? Yes.  As long as the student is meeting state and local scholastic requirements, the student may participate in high school athletics.

Who owns the textbooks that are provided by the post-secondary institution for students participating under option B? The books belong to the post-secondary institution.  All textbooks must be returned to the bookstore during finals weeks of the semester that the student is taking classes.

Once I have registered for classes at Edison, where and when can I receive books?  Books are usually available for pick up at the Edison Bookstore two weeks prior to the start of the semester.  Students must identify themselves as a PSEOP student when picking up their books.

Are the courses taken at Edison transferable? By virtue of its charter, Edison Community College holds recognition by the Ohio Board of Regents of the highest order attainable among institutions in the State of Ohio.  In addition, the Regents have reviewed and approved the courses and programs of the College. This approval signifies that Edison’s courses meet prescribed standards of quality and uniformity for maximum transferability among institutions of higher educations throughout Ohio.

Edison guarantees to its Associate of Arts and Associate of Science graduates that Edison credit will transfer to Ohio colleges and universities.  The guarantee applies to all courses included in a written transfer agreement with a specific college or university and to all courses transferred for general education under terms of the state Transfer Module.  Courses outside the Transfer Module and not included in a transfer agreement may transfer, but they are not guaranteed.

The College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA-Regional).

What courses should I take? You should plan your course work carefully with your high school guidance counselor.  Although you are welcome to take courses that will enrich your educational experience or satisfy a special interest, you are encouraged to pursue coursework that satisfies your high school graduation requirements.  After that, courses should be chosen that will further your educational and career objectives.
